How Has High Speed Internet Changed in the Last 15 Years?
Young people can’t remember a time without the internet, but people who’ve been around for awhile remember when there was not such a thing as high speed internet. When the internet was first unleashed, the only options for most people were dial-up. Typically these providers charged by the minute, and it could take several minutes just to load a single email. Most email providers were not free, so users were charged to access the internet, and to have an email account. As hard as it may be to believe, there were also initially no search engines. If you didn’t know the site you were looking for, you wouldn’t be able to find it.
Of course now everyone has access to high speed internet. It wasn’t that long ago that while many people thought everyone had access to fast internet, those in rural areas were still using dial-up. Now, thanks to satellite broadband, even those in the most rural areas can access the super fast internet the rest of the country enjoys. Not only does this mean more people can take advantage of convenient entertainment options, but it means that businesses are able to compete in a global marketplace no matter where they live.
