There are some applications where simple just works better than anything else and the simplicity of the galvanized post cap is perfect for many applications for decks and fences. Caps for fence posts can be used for decorative purposes but the real reason to use them is to protect the integrity of the post itself. If left unprotected, the post can easily split due to weather related issues or insect infestation. Either way, it’s a bad thing to let happen when it’s so easy and inexpensive to prevent. You fence or deck should never be considered complete until post caps have been applied.

While there are many different types of fence caps, metal post caps get overlooked even though they come in many sizes shapes and materials. They are overshadowed by the wood caps but they last longer and can give your deck and fence a totally different look and feel, if used correctly. Metal can have a rough edge to it as well as the slick polished look of stainless, which is popular to match outdoor cooking equipment for outdoor kitchens that have been very popular over the last few years. Don’t over look metal when considering caps for the posts in your yard.

As a garden designer, I am always looking for interesting garden structures to make my designs unique. Garden structures also expand the pallet of plant materials by giving climbers something to climb on. The showiest blossom is not so showy if it lies face down in the mulch all summer long. Arbors are excellent structures to show off unique blooms in the garden. Online I have found a couple of products that I really like. The first one is the Beachside Arbor. It is a rustic structure made from Western cedar. I love the cedar color but there is no reason why it could not be painted or stained to match or coordinate with a particular color scheme. The Beachside Arbor is perfect for fast growing plants that climb aggressively. This is a good characteristic in a vine because they cover quickly. Plants such as wisteria and antique climbing roses exhibit these characteristics.

The other structure that I am found of is the Modern Arbor. This is very useful to train more delicate, slower growing vines. The geometric details of the Modern Arbor contrast well with the organic shapes of leaves and flowers. I like to train Sweet Autumn Clematis or Tangerine Beauty Smilax and let the oohs and aahs roll in.

I never thought that buying a baby blanket could be so complicated. There are about a million different brands out there, different colors, different fabrics, how is one to choose? I mean it was worse than picking out a comforter, and babies are supposed to be less picky than adults! Luckily, with a little bit of research I narrowed it down to a couple of great options, and can now share them.

Two brands really stood out from the crowd when contemplating Baby Blankets: Little Giraffe and Barefoot Dreams. Little Giraffe offers this super popular chenille blanket with satin trim that babies just seem to love. It’s just about the softest thing ever, and doesn’t require any special care. Barefoot Dreams is also in there. They have adorable receiving blankets, travel blankets, and this super soft CozyChic material that just gets fuzzier with each wash. So from a vast sea, two brands that really focus on quality—here you can’t go wrong!

Of course, you can find brands that are less expensive or just go out and buy something from a Baby Big Box, and that’s fine. But if you want something that’s higher quality that will last and be beautiful for years, think about something a little nicer. After all, blankie is Baby’s second best friend, after mommy!

I had bugged my husband for two years about getting Adirondack chairs for our patio and deck. He complained that they didn’t look comfortable, would not hold up well and that they were just too darn expensive. It was a frustrating battle until I came home one day to six lovely hand-crafted simple Adirondack chairs on the patio and deck. All he said was, “I hope you’re happy” and I was. Now I can’t get him out of them.

It took him several months to finally try sitting in one of the chairs and he was blown away at how comfortable it really is. The design is simple yet elegant and the only thing I did was put a protective sealer as I love the natural look and feel of the chairs. You can also paint or stain them as well as they are pre-sanded and ready for any treatment when delivered. My husband has been converted 100% to inexpensive Adirondack furniture. I am convinced you will love this wonderful natural cedar wood furniture as well.
